My page on this man is complete now. Go to https://wespatterson.me/individuals/baker-sir-john/ to see all the details of how I descend from him, but also how my wife descends from him and also how our daughter-in-law descends from him. Then, how HE descends from various other figures of “nobility”.

Sir John Baker (aka Bloody Baker) was an MP – Member of Parliament, Speaker of the House of Commons, and Chancellor of the Exchequer. He was ancestor of Vanza Davis Patterson (Wes’ mother) and Charles Carroll Fishburne (Wes’ father-in-law) and Jessica Baumann Patterson (Wes’ daughter-in-law);

Sir John was b. 1488 at Sissinghurst Castle, Cranbrook, Kent, England and d. 23 Dec 1558 at London, England; John was a Knight of Sissinghurst, Recorder of London, Attorney General, Chancellor of the Exchequer and Privy Counsellor under Henry VIII, Edward VI and Queen Mary. Lore has it that he was called “Bloody Baker” because he killed so many Protestants; also, heresy burnings in his diocese where he was Justice of the Peace were higher than any other in England. But he probably received the name because of his close association with Queen “Bloody” Mary who ordered many Protestants burned at the stake across England if they did not once again accept the Catholic religion.

Sir John Baker descends from many royal lines including Charlemagne, Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire, as well as all Scandinavian Monarchs, including Bjorn (Ironside, King of Norway) Ragnarsson, Ragnar (King of Norway) Lothbrok, as well as back to all of the Sicambrian Franks, Romans, Joseph of Arimathea, and many others.

Sir John Baker married Lady Elizabeth Dinley, dau. of Sir Thomas Dinley and Phillippa (Lady) Harpesfield; this family traces back to Charlemagne, Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire;
