Individuals

Key Individuals Researched by Wes Patterson

Not all individuals listed here are ancestors of Wes. Many are, and many are simply contemporaries of his ancestors that in some way had an impact on Wes’ research of his own family. Some are ancestors of other relatives, as well.

Pictured to the right are images of William Harden “Billy” Patterson (1832-1884), Wes’ G-G-Grandfather, and also the “R” signature mark for Robert Patterson and his wife Sarah’s “S” mark. They were the 6X-G-Grandparents of Wes. Those signatures were recorded in Sussex Co, DE in 1738. Click on each image to see it larger.

There are several tables of Individuals listed below. In an attempt to keep them somewhat organized, I have them grouped into the same Family Groups that are shown on the Families Page. It’s interesting to find there are multiple kinships between my parents, Ginna’s parents, and then some of my parents with her parents, and then with some of Anna Middleton’s families too. We’re all related more than we realize!

The tables of individuals are completed more or less now, as shown below. I’m still filling in details in the tables. There are 7 tables below. Click on each one to expand the table and see the details. Click again to collapse. After the details are filled in, I’ll start building some Individual’s pages (probably not all of them though) and then will link to them from here.

Baker, Sir JohnLady Elizabeth DinleySir John Baker (aka Bloody Baker) was an MP – Member of Parliament, Speaker of the House of Commons, and Chancellor of the Exchequer. He was ancestor of Vanza Davis Patterson (Wes’ mother) and Charles Carroll Fishburne (Wes’ father-in-law) and Jessica Baumann Patterson (Wes’ daughter-in-law);

Sir John was b. 1488 at Sissinghurst Castle, Cranbrook, Kent, England and d. 23 Dec 1558 at London, England; John was a Knight of Sissinghurst, Recorder of London, Attorney General, Chancellor of the Exchequer and Privy Counsellor under Henry VIII, Edward VI and Queen Mary. Lore has it that he was called “Bloody Baker” because he killed so many Protestants; also, heresy burnings in his diocese where he was Justice of the Peace were higher than any other in England. But he probably received the name because of his close association with Queen “Bloody” Mary who ordered many Protestants burned at the stake across England if they did not once again accept the Catholic religion.

Sir John Baker descends from many royal lines including Charlemagne, Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire, as well as all Scandinavian Monarchs, including Bjorn (Ironside, King of Norway) Ragnarsson, Ragnar (King of Norway) Lothbrok, as well as back to all of the Sicambrian Franks, Romans, and many others.

Sir John Baker married Lady Elizabeth Dinley, dau. of Sir Thomas Dinley and Phillippa (Lady) Harpesfield; this family traces back to Charlemagne, Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire;

Baker, Sir JohnLady Elizabeth DinleySir John Baker (aka Bloody Baker) was an MP – Member of Parliament, Speaker of the House of Commons, and Chancellor of the Exchequer. He was ancestor of Vanza Davis Patterson (Wes’ mother) and Charles Carroll Fishburne (Wes’ father-in-law) and Jessica Baumann Patterson (Wes’ daughter-in-law);

Sir John Baker married Lady Elizabeth Dinley, dau. of Sir Thomas Dinley and Phillippa (Lady) Harpesfield; this family traces back to Charlemagne, Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire;
