250 years ago today, Robert Patterson wrote his last Will & Testament. Robert Patterson was my 6xG-GF. In this Will he named his oldest son Thomas Patterson (my 5xG-GF) and his son John Patterson (my 4xG-GF). Robert also named his daughter Sarah and her husband, Joseph Black (my 5xG-Grandparents). John Patterson would later marry the daughter of Sarah and Joseph Black, Margaret “Peggy” Black, and they were my 4xG-Grandparents.
Robert Patterson was born ca. 1705 and was living in Sussex Co, Delaware by 1732 and probably by 1727 as there is a deed witnessed by Robert’s mother that year. Robert married his wife Sarah in DE in the 1730’s, and between 1738 and 1740 they moved to what is now Harrisonburg, VA in the Shenandoah Valley. By the 1760’s they moved to what is now just below the Kings Mountain State and Military Parks along the NC/SC border. They lived along Clarks Fork of Bullocks Creek in what is now York Co, SC. Robert died there in 1775 and Sarah died there in 1789/90.
